Endangered Independence

Today I'm here to talk about a country's independence; but what is independence really? Being self-sufficient. Doing what you'd like when you'd like. Living your life the way you wish to live it... above all, living.

Independence is a word that leaves a bitter sweet flavor on the tongue of many Afghangstahs.

Sweet because it's the very defining core of our being yet bitter because the very essence that defines us has been taken away from us.

Today the very land that was built on the backs of warriors, a graveyard to the biggest of empires should be celebrating it's well earned independence. Instead, those very warriors are mourning. Today that very country is stripped of its defining factor. Today we remember how these bombs broke our home, how a bride died and how a baby wasn't born.

Today my family is mourning the death of Shams, an uncle whose only memory left is his heroic tales and picture. Shams, a son who went missing never to be found again. Shams, a brother who sacrificed his life while standing up for the freedom of his country.

Today a widow mourns because her tears will never be enough to feed her orphans. Today a mother's heart bleeds more than her son's body. Today a bride's hands are red with blood and not henna.

Today all these people are scattered across the globe. Standing independent yet with no independence.

Today I am here to mourn my country that has been at war for over 40 years.

The people of Afghanistan have not only lost their independence. With it, they have lost their families, their arms, their legs, their faces and their peace of mind.

Now imagine losing all of this on the same day, not just any day, one of the most happy and long awaited days in your life, your wedding day.

Afghan weddings get bombed more than anybody hears about... now tell me what country is independent when a girls smile is blown off her face on her wedding day...

I ask of you to help me help the victims of bomb attacks with the basic necessities and more. Most of you reading this have the means to do many things these people can't. We have the means to recreate these horrors but wipe them right back off our faces while they don't even have the means to lessen the scars that keep scarring them.

Help me help restore the little independence they may have left. Join me on my mission to provide these bomb attack victims with makeup and more. Makeup that matters.

More details coming soon.

Below I've provided links to organizations that help with these matters:
